Dangerous creosote buildup could cause your home to burn down.

Proper chimney maintenance should include chimney cleaning at least once a year to prevent buildup and protect against house fires. Creosote, which contains acid, will damage the tiles in your chimney over time and can require the installation of a Stainless Steel Liner if not regularly cleaned.

We will clean your entire chimney, from sweeping the inside of the chimney to the fireplace. Your chimney will function more efficiently and be safe!

What is Creosote and How Can it Affect my Home?

In essence, creosote is generally formed by the incomplete combustion of wood. Incomplete combustion occurs when the wood isn’t properly seasoned, and dried, which won’t allow it to burn hot enough. Improperly seasoned wood will increase the buildup of dangerous creosote inside your chimney. Properly seasoned wood takes 1-2 years and must be tented, kept dry, and raised off the ground during this process. This can be as simple as stacking wood on a pallet. Usually, Creosote takes one of two very distinctive forms:

  • Black brittle pieces

  • Glazed components, similar to thick black paint, like glass

The most dangerous aspect of creosote buildup is one of the main causes of chimney fires and could result in a real and dangerous hazard for your home. An efficient wood-burning appliance with appropriate operating techniques and regular maintenance can greatly reduce the risks of a chimney fire.

How a Chimney Inspection Can Help You

With an annual chimney inspection and a more regular chimney sweeping service, you can ensure that your home’s safety and social integrity is improved upon. The simple fact of the matter is that failing to do so can cause chimney fires and increase carbon monoxide concerns on furnace pathways. Even a gas fireplace chimney can be blocked by a bird’s nest or a wide range of other debris, which in turn, can detrimentally affect your home’s safety.
